2. Authorship Recognition:
Authors have the right to be appropriately credited for their work. This includes listing all contributors who meet the criteria for authorship.
3. Reproduction and Distribution:
Authors can distribute copies of their work and share it on personal websites, institutional repositories, or academic networking sites (e.g., ResearchGate), subject to journal policies.
4. Right to Withdraw:
Authors can withdraw their manuscript before publication if ethical or professional concerns arise.
5. Access to Published Work:
Authors have the right to access their published work and, in many cases, to share it with colleagues or use it in teaching and presentations.
6. Correction of Errors:
Authors have the right to request corrections to errors in their published work, whether factual or typographical.
7. Protection from Misuse:
Authors are protected against misuse or misrepresentation of their work by third parties.
B. Author's Responsibilities:
1. Originality and Plagiarism:
Authors must ensure that their work is original and properly cite all sources. Plagiarism, whether intentional or unintentional, is a serious ethical breach.
2. Accurate Reporting:
Authors are responsible for presenting accurate, clear, and reproducible data and results. Misleading or fabricated data is strictly prohibited.
3. Acknowledgement of Contributions:
Authors must appropriately acknowledge all contributors, funding sources, and affiliations that supported the work.
4. Avoidance of Multiple Submissions:
Authors must not submit the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously, nor should they publish the same research in various venues without proper disclosure.
5. Conflict of Interest Disclosure:
Authors must disclose any financial or personal conflicts of interest that could influence their work or its interpretation.
6. Compliance with Ethical Standards:
Authors must adhere to ethical guidelines, including obtaining appropriate approvals for human, animal, or sensitive data studies.
7. Timely Communication:
Authors must respond promptly to editors’ or reviewers’ queries and provide revisions within the agreed timelines.
8. Post-Publication Responsibility:
Authors must take responsibility for their published work, including addressing post-publication issues such as corrections, retractions, or clarifications when necessary.
9. Transparency and Reproducibility:
Authors should provide sufficient details in their methods and data to allow others to reproduce or build upon their work.
10. Adherence to Journal Guidelines:
Authors must follow the journal's specific submission, formatting, and ethical policies.
By understanding and adhering to these rights and responsibilities, authors can ensure that their contributions to academic literature are ethical, impactful, and respected.
